Folk Wisdom and Superstition in the Alps

Lucky charms and love spells

Many traditions and folk wisdom have developed from people’s close connection to their strongly religious environment.

In this book Christoph Frühwirth explores the nature of folk beliefs through encounters with experts such as naturopath Hans Gasperl and relationship expert Gabriele Kuhn. “It’s always other people who are superstitious,” as the saying goes. Whether in love spells around Valentine’s Day or in natural medicine, the stories from real life that Frühwirth traces show the significance that belief in the supernatural still has in the Alpine region today.

The author shows us a door to the past that is still open today. A book written with a sense of humor that brings the magical world of the Alpine region into the present day.
